Arsenal hold a first-leg advantage as they host Sporting CP in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg.

An injury-time effort from Kai Havertz earned Arsenal a 1-0 victory in the first leg. However, that has been the only win in the last four matches across all competitions for Mikel Arteta's team, who have lost the other three fixtures. 

Arsenal head into Wednesday's clash off the back of a 2-1 Premier League home defeat to Bournemouth last weekend. However, that was a rare home defeat, having won their previous seven fixtures at the Emirates, while they also remain unbeaten in the Champions League. 

Arsenal often turn on the style at the Emirates and have scored over 1.5 goals in seven of their last nine home matches across all competitions. However, they are without a clean sheet in five of their last eight matches across all competitions, while six of their last nine home fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals.

Sporting CP will be disappointed to have come away empty-handed from the first leg, having had several chances to score. That result is the only sour spot in their recent form, having won four of their last five matches across all competitions, including a 1-0 victory at Estrella last weekend. 

With the deficit not too high, Sporting CP will be hopeful of a fightback on Wednesday. However, the problem is that their record on the road in the Champions League has been unconvincing, with just one win in the last five away matches in the competition. 

Sporting have quality going forward and have scored in eight of the last 10 matches across all competitions. However, they are without a clean sheet in eight of their last 10 away matches, with seven of those fixtures producing over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal have never lost in this fixture, with three wins and as many draws in six previous matches against Sporting CP. The Gunners claimed a 1-0 victory in last week's first leg. 

Verdict

Given recent results, Arsenal will be keen to turn on the style and make a statement in front of their fans. Having scored over 1.5 goals in seven of their last nine home matches, a repeat could be on the cards.
